Kris Fitzgerald is the Principal/Owner of 2k Designs, a small graphic design consultancy founded in 1995. Her work crosses a wide range of disciplines from brand identity and print communications to electronic media, web, signage and exhibit design. Her mission has been to deliver high quality, customized, design and marketing solutions that fit the specific needs (and budget) for each of her clients. As a sole proprietorship, she often partners with other creative professionals to assemble the most experienced and knowledgeable team for each project.
As principal/owner of 2k Design, Kris draws on over three decades of design, marketing, and entrepreneurial experience to assist her clients with a wide range of projects, many focused on promoting outdoor experiences and guiding visitors to New York’s special places. While most of her work is focused on design and strategy, Kris brings together her team of creative partners for work that extends beyond her individual capabilities.
Since 2008, Kris has worked for the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor on a wide range of materials including print, signage, their website, and, with members of her creative team, on materials and planning for two special initiatives—the New York State Canalway Water Trail and the Canalway Challenge. Most recently, her team developed the brand, website, and marketing materials/plan for the New York Susquehanna Basin Water Trail in the Southern Tier. Additional clients include the Adirondack Regional Tourism Council, Hudson River Valley Greenway, Schenectady Metroplex, the City of Rome, Parks & Trails New York, Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor, and Freedom Frontier National Heritage Area. Projects for these clients combine her love of the outdoors with her love for design and always lead her on new adventures that inform their development. Kris also designs magazines for Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, the New York State Archives Partnership Trust, Avon Old Farms School, and Union College.
Prior to launching 2k Design, she was the Art Director/Designer for Albany Medical Center, an academic health sciences center in upstate New York. Before moving back to New York, she designed marketing materials for Abbott Laboratories, Guinness, Häagen Daz, Lederle, Merke, Pepsi, Pitney Bowes, Stolichnaya, Toys ‘R Us, U.S. Surgical Corporation, and Wyeth-Ayerst at various agencies in Fairfield County, Connecticut. She holds a BFA with honors in graphic design from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
In addition to receiving numerous accolades for her work, Kris was recognized by Graphic Design:USA magazine in 2019 as a “Person to Watch” and by the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Council in 2001 with the Microenterprise Award. Having joined in 1990, Kris was also recently recognized as a lifetime member of the Type Directors Club. She's also on the executive advisory board of a 501c4 organization committed to community service across the country.
Kris is an (almost) lifelong New Yorker, growing up in South Glens Falls, attending school in Rochester, and now currently living in the Capital Region with her husband. Growing up in the foothills of the Adirondacks, between Lake George and Saratoga Springs, outdoor activities (hiking, paddling, skiing, rollerblading, golfing, and cycling) have long been a passion of hers. Fun fact—while her son was younger, each summer their family visited different MLB stadiums and explored the cities where they are located. COVID and college put the journey to visit all 30 on pause, but with just a few remaining, they hope to finish soon.
