Wappinger’s Falls, NY—Content Studio New York’s annual, full-color-glossy, national, award-winning magazine, New York by Rail, has been credited with successfully promoting New York State tourism and, thereby, helping to significantly boost the state’s economy.
The State-Amtrak Intercity Passenger Rail Committee (SAIPRC) released a report in July 2025, documenting nearly four and a half billion dollars in annual economic impact, generated by state-supported passenger rail services across the country.
The report zeroes in on New York, pointing out that the Empire State supported routes carry over 365,000 visitors throughout the state each year, generating about 250-million dollars in tourist spending, supporting nearly 2,000 jobs.
The New York State Department of Transportation credits New York By Rail for promoting tourism along NY’s State-supported routes: “Tourism along NY’s State-supported routes is promoted through the New York by Rail magazine, a 20-year partnership between Amtrak and New York to promote tourism to rail travelers, informing them of attractions, hotels, restaurants, art galleries, nature trails, and more that are all accessible by train.”
“This report is a testament to everyone who contributes to New York by Rail Magazine and its longstanding Amtrak partnership,” says Content Studio New York CEO and Chief Content Officer Tom Martinelli. “The numbers don’t lie, and it’s gratifying to be identified not only as a key marketing vehicle for New York State Amtrak ridership but also for helping travelers navigate their way through New York and support local economies once they get off the train.”
“One Hudson River county alone with an Amtrak stop can point to a $60-million dollar increase in visitor spending,” said Robert C. Provost, President and CEO of the New York State Tourism Industry Association. "It can result in $40 million dollars invested in second home purchases attributed almost entirely to their Amtrak rail service.”
Ridership on New York’s state supported routes has grown twenty-one percent over the past 12 years.
More than 18-million New Yorkers live within 30 miles of a station served by a state supported route.
Since 2004, when New York By Rail was first published, the magazine and its digital version have been the sought-after guide of inspiration for train travelers and pleasure-seekers alike. As an official Amtrak publication, 75,000 copies of the magazine are printed annually and distributed through most New York Amtrak owned stations, tourist
information centers, airports, hotels and travel agents.
