Job Description/Responsibilities
The Senior Sales & Services Manager plays a central role in positioning Warren County, Lake George, and the Southern Adirondacks as a premier destination for meetings, conferences, group events, and sports tourism. This role leads the proactive sales strategy for the LGRCVB, promotes partner facilities and community assets, and ensures the organization meets its annual booking goals. The Manager focuses on generating group business across state, regional, and national association markets, as well as corporate sectors—with an emphasis on increasing Sunday–Thursday visitation.
This position also oversees the sales and convention services functions of the team and reports directly to the Executive Director on all matters related to the LGRCVB mission and operations.
Group Sales & Business Development
- Serve as the primary liaison among clients, local lodging properties, and event venues; manage RFPs and coordinate all communication to secure business.
- Prepare comprehensive proposals detailing venue options, pricing, guestroom availability, off-site experiences, transportation, incentives, and other client costs.
- Prospect for new business through industry platforms, AI tools, trade publications, associations, and targeted outreach.
- Lead partner meetings and represent the destination at regional and statewide sales initiatives, including public speaking engagements.
- Expand and qualify the pipeline of prospective clients through strategic new business development.
- Develop and execute an all-encompassing sales strategy to achieve booking and room-night targets as contracted with Warren County.
- Participate actively in industry organizations (ESSAE, MPI Upstate NY, etc.) to enhance the region’s visibility; attend and exhibit at trade shows as appropriate.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual sales reports, including year-over-year analysis.
- Ensure the CRM system is updated with accurate accounts, meeting history, lead distribution, client communications, and documentation.
- Conduct sales calls throughout the Capital Region and beyond to increase awareness of CVB services.
- Organize and lead an annual cooperative sales mission with lodging partners to the Capital District.
- Develop ROI reports for sales programs as requested by the Executive Director.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Provide functional supervision and guidance to 1–2 team members, including the Convention Services Specialist.
- Oversee the sales and services activities of the department, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Coordinate with the Marketing Specialist and Convention Services Specialist to deliver services, enhance destination experiences, and support confirmed events.
- Cultivate strong relationships with members, partners, and community stakeholders to support collaborative sales efforts.
- Ensure timely follow-up with clients, accurate CRM input, and submission of trip reports to the Executive Director.
Convention Services Oversight
- Supervise the Sales and Services Specialist to ensure exceptional delivery of services to planners and organizations.
- Oversee the coordination of logistics, partner referrals, event marketing support, off-site activities, and additional services that enhance group experiences.
- Lead post-conference follow-up to support future business opportunities.
- Report regularly on services provided and opportunities to strengthen the destination’s competitive position.
Budget & Administrative Responsibilities
- Manage the budget for market-specific travel, trade shows, entertainment, and related expenses, ensuring compliance with approved spending.
- Submit expense reports promptly and accurately.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local venues and meeting spaces, tracking inventory and availability.
- Assist the Executive Director and Marketing Specialist with presentations to committees, the LGRCVB Board of Directors, and external stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, tourism, sales/marketing, event management, or a related field.
- Minimum five years of experience in hospitality sales, tourism, business development, or event management.
- Minimum three years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent verbal and written communication, with strong presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships, influence decision-making, and provide outstanding customer service.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database/CRM systems.
- Valid state driver’s license or the ability to obtain one upon hire.
Knowledge of:
- Sales and marketing principles, including prospecting, relationship building, and closing strategies.
- Destination marketing best practices and group sales trends.
- CRM platforms, project management tools, and related industry technologies.
- Budget development, monitoring, and reporting.
- Effective written and verbal communication across a variety of formats.
