Candidacy Form (Self-Nomination Only): NYSTIA Board of Directors Election
Greetings!
The Nominating Committee of the New York State Tourism Industry Association (NYSTIA) is seeking individuals interested in serving on the association's Board of Directors. Will you put your expertise, enthusiasm and experience to work for the advancement New York State's tourism industry and your NYSTIA colleagues?
Returning Board Candidates: Each year seven (7) of NYSTIA's twenty one (21) board members complete their three (3) year term of service. Only one (1) of the seven board members is completing their first term this year and is eligible for a second term.
Board Openings/New Board Candidates: Six (6) of the NYSTIA board members are completing their second three-year term and have reached the Bylaws term limits. In addition, there are two additional vacancies due to directors who have had to resign from the board due to changes in employment. There are eight board openings open to new candidates in the 2025 board election:
- Four (4) term TPA board positions and
- Four (4) general industry (non-TPA) board positions
will be open due to Bylaws term limitations and resignations.
Candidate attributes that will be considered by the nominating committee include:
- Engagement: Is the candidate already actively engaged as a member, serving on a committee, and/or participating in NYSTIA programming?
- Member Type: Bylaws guidelines dictate that the Board of Directors consist of a balance of TPA (11 directors) and non-TPA (10 directors) members. Underrepresented membership categories will be considered for non-TPA openings on the board.
- Geographic Distribution: Is the candidate from one of New York State's eleven tourism regions that is numerically underrepresented on the NYSTIA board? (Long Island-0; Hudson Valley-1; Catskills-1, Thousand Islands-0; Greater Niagara-1; Capital Saratoga-1, Central NY-1)
- Expertise: Does the candidate have specialized knowledge and/or professional skills that will contribute to the board's efficacy? (Note: board members cannot have a grant-related vendor relationship with NYSTIA)
- Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: NYSTIA's commitment to purposeful action around diversity, equity, and inclusion is also a factor in candidate selection. Is the candidate a member of a segment of New York State's population that is underrepresented on the NYSTIA Board of Directors?
NOTE: Board members should be prepared to:
- Actively engage with one (or more) NYSTIA committee(s) as well as participate in programs and events.
- Complete and sign both a Confidentiality Agreement and a Conflict of Interest form.
- Serve a three-year term (Directors are eligible for re-election for a second three-year term).
