Job Description/Responsibilities
The Vice President, Research & Insights leads and manages the Research & Insights Department, providing vision, direction, and execution for all market research initiatives. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of all destination and industry data, supports decision-making across the organization, and serves as a key resource on tourism trends and insights for internal and external stakeholders. The VP partners closely with executive leadership to translate research into actionable strategies that advance NYC Tourism + Conventions' mission.
Job Requirements:
- Lead, supervise, and mentor the Research & Insights team, overseeing day-to-day operations, staff development, and departmental priorities while fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
- Direct the design, execution, and evaluation of research projects and market surveys (internal and external).
- Develop project specifications and manage relationships with independent research suppliers.
- Review, analyze, and synthesize research data (internal and vendor-supplied) to produce clear, actionable reports and recommendations for senior leadership.
- Maintain up-to-date market indicators and statistical data relevant to New York City’s travel, tourism, convention, and meetings sectors.
- Serve as the organization’s subject matter expert on travel industry trends, performance metrics, and competitive benchmarking.
- Present insights and findings to a variety of audiences, including executive leaders, board members, elected leaders, media, and industry partners.
- Advise and support member organizations and partners with data analysis and consulting services as needed.
- Develop, recommend, and manage the department budget; monitor expenditures and report on variances.
- Collaborate with other departments to assess research needs and provide strategic input for planning and initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, industry standards, and ethical guidelines in all research activities.
- Participate in organizational strategic planning and policy development as part of the executive management team.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Statistics, Economics, or related field required. Experience with hotel, marketing, and other tourism-related data preferred.
- Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible experience in market research, business analysis, or a related field, with significant management experience.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and PowerPoint); experience with statistical/survey software (e.g., Qualtrics, SPSS) preferred.
- Demonstrated experience designing and managing research projects, analyzing large data sets, and delivering strategic insights.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex data clearly and persuasively.
- Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to manage budgets and departmental resources.
- Experience supervising, developing, and motivating staff in a collaborative environment.

Salary Range:
$190k - $210k
