NYS Senate and Assembly Proposed Budgets Restore Matching Funds For Tourism

by Bob Provost

Both the NYS Senate and Assembly have approved budget proposals restoring the $1 million dollar cut in Tourism Matching Funds proposed in the Executive Budget Proposal. Their proposed budgets would match the $3.5 million allocated in last year's budget.

NYSTIA communicated early in the legislative session with legislative leadership, and I joined NYSTIA Advocacy Committee members Jeff Shiply and Josiah Brown as members of NYSHTA's Lobby Day teams on March 8.

A special thank you to Mark Dorr, NYSHTA President & CEO, for rallying industry-wide support on this issue.

Outcomes are not certain until the final budget is passed, but NYSTIA's Advocacy Committee is committed to the long-term restoration of tourism matching funds to the $5 million, the level allocated in the 2018 budget. Visit the NYSTIA Advocacy Action Center.
