Who We Are

The New York State Tourism Industry Association (NYSTIA) is a member-driven, member-directed 501(c)6 nonprofit at the vanguard of transformational tourism marketing, stewardship, and strategic thinking. We convene New York State's tourism industry provide advocacy insight, tools and resources, elevate professional development, build cooperative partnerships, and raise consumer awareness of the state's travel opportunities, guided by a culture of best practice, continuous learning, constructive change, and celebrating achievement.

Our Mission

NYSTIA assists our members in realizing the potential of New York State's tourism industry to advance sustainable economic growth, create local jobs, add vitality to communities, support small business success, and increase state and local tax revenues.

We pursue this mission by facilitating member success and unlocking the industry's untapped potential, because "Tourism Done Right" improves the standard of living, quality of life, and pride of place for New York State's communities and residents.

Our Leadership

NYSTIA's leadership consists of a diverse 21-person board of directors, drawn from the association's membership per our bylaws requirements. The board is led by an 7-member Executive Committee, and the President & CEO oversees association staff managing the day-to-day operations of the association.

What We Do

NYSTIA addresses our mission and facilitates member success by providing networking and professional development opportunities, a comprehensive consumer trade show series, and cost-effective media marketing programs. We also engage in year-round advocacy support for our members, including participation in the annual Tourism Action Day at the NYS Capitol.

Our Events & Communications: Virtual & In-Person

The Association staff manage day-to-day activities and facilitates member success by:

  • Advocating for government policies and programs (locally, in Albany, and in Washington, DC) that help the industry realize its potential;
  • Providing networking, professional development, and cooperative partnership opportunities and events among NYSTIA members and industry thought leaders;
  • Developing cost-saving cooperative marketing, consumer shows, and market intelligence programs that raise awareness of New York State travel and vacation opportunities;
  • Supporting career development for students and prospective tourism professionals through the Destinations of New York State Travel, Tourism, Hospitality & Culinary College Scholarship Program;
  • Connecting and informing members via a weekly e-newsletter, social media, and organizing our annual signature events;
  • Fielding member questions and concerns on industry issues and activities.

The Association derives its operating budget from membership dues, cooperative marketing activities, and registrations/underwriting for NYSTIA events and conferences.

  • New York State Tourism Conference: Convening the best and brightest in the industry in the spring of each year to share best practice, emerging trends, and thought leadership;
  • New York State Tourism Excellence Awards: Celebrating the outstanding work and individuals that contribute to the success of New York State's tourism industry;
  • New York State Tourism Excellence Summit: Convening the industry in the fall of each year for informational workshops and professional development, launch new initiatives The year in review and the year ahead, convening our members to set the agenda, launch new initiatives and set the agenda for the organization;
  • Regional and Virtual Events: Scheduled throughout the year with roundtables, panel discussions, workshops and industry briefings.
  • Weekly Newsletter: We'll keep you informed, in touch and in the know regarding the tourism industry developments and news of/from your peers.
