Lake George Triathlon Festival Returns for Labor Day Weekend

Aug 29, 2023

LAKE GEORGE, NY — Alpha Win hosts the 17th annual Lake George Triathlon Festival this coming Labor Day weekend. On Friday, September 1 through Sunday, September 3, the bikeways, sidewalks and shores of Lake George and Queensbury will be filled with willful athletes competing to win one of the featured races: the Alpha Sprint, Alpha Olympic, or the Alpha 70.3. The Lake George Triathlon Festival is a fun and competitive weekend on the shores of Lake George that fosters a family-friendly atmosphere.

Participants compete against the clock, transitioning from one discipline to another within designated transition areas. The races begin on Saturday morning at 7 am. sharp with the Half wave start (Alpha 70.3 and Alpha 140.6) at Lake George Beach (Million Dollar Beach). The Alpha 70.3 is a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run.

The races continue Sunday morning, with the Alpha Sprint kicking off at 6:30 am. This is a 750 meter swim, 12.4 mile bike, and 3.1 mile run. Awards for this race will be handed out at 9:00 am. The final race, the Alpha Olympic, will start at 7:10 am. This is a 1,500 meter swim, 24.8 mile bike, and a 6.2 mile run.

Saugerties local and triathlon enthusiast, Tommy Struzzieri, championed the effort to continue the race in the Lake George Area. “There is no better venue and atmosphere than the Lake George Area and we are excited to welcome athletes back to the cleanest lake in America for the 17th Annual Lake George Triathlon Festival”, says Struzzeri.

Struzzeri believes the endurance industry is primed for a company like Alpha that will help people of all abilities get into racing. “We aim to provide our athletes with a safe and challenging course that is perfect for both the beginner and experienced triathlete. We wish our athletes the best of luck!”, adds Struzzeri.

Gina Mintzer, Executive Director of the Lake George Regional Convention & Visitors Bureau, shares the impact and distinctiveness of events like this in Warren County. “The Lake George Triathlon festival remains a magnet for elite athletes, generating a substantial economic influence in the region. What sets this triathlon apart is that participants have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the finest elements of our community. They can relish swimming in the pristine waters of Lake George, cycling along the scenic routes through the towns of Lake George and Queensbury, and completing the run through the Village of Lake George. Furthermore, they have the privilege of engaging with the local volunteers and spectators who passionately support and encourage the athletes”.

Athletes interested in competing are encouraged to register online before Saturday, September 2 by visiting: alpha.win. Volunteers are also requested to assist with various set up, race day and post-race support. All volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and will be provided with food and beverages during their shift. If you are interested in volunteering, e-mail info@Alpha.win with your availability.

As an incentive and token of appreciation to groups and organizations that bring 25 or more members to volunteer at the event, Alpha Win will be providing a monetary gift of $250 to the organization. These organizations also have the opportunity to provide a banner, which will be displayed on the race course.
