Grant Round for Historic Canals is Now Open!

- This year's second grant round for the William G. Pomeroy Foundation's Historic Transportation Canal Marker Grant Program opened on September 7! The program commemorates the history of the important transportation canals in the United States.

From towpaths and tugboats to the lock tender's house, give recognition to your community's historic transportation canal with a Pomeroy Foundation Marker. Lock in your application this round and save these dates!


Round 1

  • 04/05/21 – Application becomes available online
  • 05/17/21 – Deadline to submit Letter of Intent (LOI) to verify primary sources. Submit your proposed marker inscription and list the primary source documentation you have assembled to verify the historic accuracy of your text.
  • 06/21/21 – Application deadline
  • 07/30/21 – Grants awarded

Round 2

  • 09/07/21 – Application becomes available online
  • 10/18/21 – Deadline to submit Letter of Intent (LOI) to verify primary sources. Submit your proposed marker inscription and list the primary source documentation you have assembled to verify the historic accuracy of your text.
  • 11/19/21 – Application deadline
  • 12/31/21 – Grants awarded
