Garrett Tyler-Parker is the Director Analysis & Insights at Tourism Research Australia (Austrade). Tourism Research Australia (TRA) is Australia's leading provider of quality tourism intelligence across both international and domestic markets. TRA provides statistics and research to assist the government, the visitor economy and Australian businesses. We equip industry with information to strengthen their marketing and business decisions.
With over 15 years of experience in strategic research and insights – spanning global and boutique consultancies as well as client-side roles in local and federal government – Garrett brings a proven ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable strategy for executive decision-makers. In his current role, Garrett leads national forecasting and strategic reporting that informs federal policy and private sector decision making. He collaborates with B2B and B2C stakeholders to deliver insights that shape infrastructure planning, travel behavior, and market growth. Garrett is relocating permanently to the NYC area.
With a proven ability to translate complex data into strategy for C-suite and board-level stakeholders, he Led high-impact research programs across tourism, education, finance, CPG and public policy – shaping national strategy and driving market growth. Garrett is entrepreneurial and audience-focused, with deep expertise in consumer understanding, brand health, segmentation, and behavioral forecasting. He is adept at navigating ambiguity, aligning cross-functional teams, and delivering insight-led strategy in fast-paced environments and an expert at translating and communicating complex data into clear, compelling narratives for executive decision-makers, driving high levels of client satisfaction, retention and expansion. He is a self-directed researcher, skilled in research design, stakeholder engagement, and data-driven storytelling.

Garrett was a judge for the 2025 Australian Research Awards, a part of the Steering Committee for the 2024 & 2025 Australian Research Society Public Sector Conference and the 2024 Travel and Tourism Research Association Global Conference, and Advisory member for the 2023 & 2024 Canberra Region Tourism Awards. He has also been a member of Australian Federal Government Tourism Research Committee since 2022 and an evaluation member of ACT Space Hub, Canberra Brand and Infrastructure Consultation from 2022 to 2024.
Away from the office, Garrett is an avid runner, building up to his first marathon in early 2026! He balances this out with a passion for craft beer - not only having a drink but also conducting a university research masters, studying regional craft beer breweries and their relationship with place, including economic and community impact. He and his family are avid travelers, taking an international trip every year - most frequently from Australia to the US to visit his wife's family.
