Marketing Manager

Position Summary

Oneida County Tourism is seeking a strategic, creative, and collaborative Marketing Manager to help lead the next chapter of destination marketing in Oneida County.

This position plays a key role in advancing the organization's mission by connecting marketing strategy with creative execution. The Marketing Manager develops and implements integrated marketing initiatives that inspire travel, strengthen community pride, support local tourism businesses, and elevate Oneida County as a premier destination.

As our organization continues to grow, this role has been intentionally designed to support the future of destination marketing. Beyond creating marketing materials or managing day-to-day communications, the Marketing Manager helps strengthen and elevate our entire marketing ecosystem—including integrated campaigns, creative storytelling, digital marketing, agency collaboration, project management, and data-informed decision making.

While a strong marketing background is essential, destination marketing is a specialized industry with unique audiences, partnerships, funding models, and economic impacts. Oneida County Tourism is committed to investing in the professional growth of this position through mentorship, industry involvement, and continuing education.

The Marketing Manager works closely with the President and the team during onboarding and throughout the first year to develop a comprehensive understanding of the organization, the tourism industry, and Oneida County's visitor economy. As industry knowledge and experience grow, the Marketing Manager will assume increasing responsibility for recommending marketing strategies, leading initiatives, managing partnerships, and contributing to organizational decision making.

Essential Responsibilities

Strategic Marketing & Campaign Development

  • Assist in developing and executing integrated marketing campaigns that align with organizational goals and strategic priorities.
  • Recommend innovative marketing initiatives that inspire travel, support tourism partners, and strengthen community engagement.
  • Evaluate advertising opportunities, sponsorships, promotional partnerships, and emerging marketing channels.
  • Utilize data, research, visitor insights, and organizational objectives to recommend marketing tactics and campaign strategies.
  • Monitor campaign performance and identify opportunities for optimization and continuous improvement.
  • Support the marketing and promotion of organizational events, destination initiatives, major announcements, and other strategic priorities.

Creative Execution & Brand Stewardship

  • Serve as a steward of Oneida County Tourism's brand by ensuring consistency across all marketing platforms, campaigns, and materials.
  • Create and oversee development of digital advertisements, marketing collateral, presentations, promotional materials, and creative assets.
  • Collaborate with photographers, videographers, designers, writers, and creative partners to produce compelling marketing content.
  • Recommend creative concepts that strengthen campaigns while maintaining established brand standards.
  • Help bring destination stories to life through thoughtful, engaging, and innovative marketing.

Digital Marketing & Content Strategy

  • Develop compelling marketing copy and content for email marketing, blogs, landing pages, campaigns, publications, and other owned marketing channels.
  • Help develop stories that highlight tourism partners, visitor experiences, community investment, and the impact of tourism throughout Oneida County.
  • Assist with implementation of digital advertising campaigns across multiple platforms.
  • Manage website content and support ongoing optimization of the visitor experience.
  • Organize and maintain marketing assets to support organizational efficiency and consistency.
  • Recommend improvements to digital marketing efforts based on performance metrics and industry trends.

Project & Vendor Management

  • Manage multiple marketing projects from concept through completion while balancing competing priorities.
  • Coordinate project timelines, deliverables, approvals, and budgets.
  • Serve as the primary day-to-day liaison for marketing agencies, consultants, creative partners, and vendors while collaborating closely with the President on overall strategy and direction.
  • Assist in managing major organizational marketing initiatives, including publications, campaigns, website enhancements, and other special projects.
  • Foster productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Industry Engagement & Professional Development

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of destination marketing, tourism economics, visitor behavior, and the role of destination organizations.
  • Build strong working relationships with tourism partners and community stakeholders throughout Oneida County.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, industry conferences, and continuing education.
  • Successfully complete the Professional in Destination Management (PDM) certification through Destinations International.
  • Stay informed on emerging marketing trends, destination marketing best practices, and evolving consumer behavior.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant professional marketing experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing marketing projects or campaigns from planning through execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively while successfully managing day-to-day priorities.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a small team environment.
  • Willingness and enthusiasm to learn the destination marketing industry and participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Ability to occasionally attend events and meetings outside traditional business hours and travel as required by the position.
    Preferred
  • Experience developing and executing integrated marketing campaigns across multiple channels.
  • Experience managing relationships with agencies, consultants, vendors, or other external partners.
  • Experience with one or more areas of digital marketing, including digital advertising, website content management systems, email marketing platforms, and marketing analytics.
  • Experience using data, analytics, or performance metrics to inform marketing decisions and optimize campaigns.
  • Experience creating marketing materials using Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience within tourism, hospitality, destination marketing, economic development, or a related industry.

Pay: $66,000.00 - $69,500.00 per year
