Join the 17th Annual Canal Clean Sweep hosted on Earth Day Weekend!

Mar 28, 2022

Join Parks and Trails NY for New York's largest Earth Day celebration!

- Each Earth Day, the NYS Canal Corporation and Parks & Trails New York host Canal Clean Sweep, a weekend of spring cleaning on sections of the Canalway Trail, in canalside parks, and in other public areas throughout the Canal corridor.

This year, Canal Clean Sweep will be held on the weekend of April 22-24, 2022, with events also occurring in the weeks leading up to and after that weekend.

How it works:

Find an event near you: Use the interactive map to find a clean-up near you. Most events are open to the public, but some are private. If an event is private and you're not sure if you are included, please contact the event organizer.

Register to volunteer: Use this form to sign up for the event you would like to attend. Make sure to note the date and time - most events occur the weekend of April 22-24, but some clean-ups might be earlier or later.

Roll up your sleeves and get to work: On the day of the event, show up at the location and time indicated on the event listing on the map and get to work. Volunteers will receive Canal Clean Sweep t-shirts and garbage bags to collect litter. We recommend bringing your own gloves and water, and wearing protective clothing.
