Bertil Vallien Passing Through Celebration Hosted at Corning Museum of Glass

The Shops at The Corning Museum of Glass Set to Host Renowned Glassmaker Bertil Vallien in Celebration of 60 Years of the Artist’s Work

Corning, NY, September 18, 2023 – Bertil Vallien, renowned glass caster, designer, and innovator will visit The Corning Museum of Glass (CMoG) October 10 and 11, 2023 for a suite of special events celebrating his 60-year career and the launch of a new collection titled Passing Through—the largest offering of his iconic designs in the United States, available at CMoG’s Shops in person and online. Museum visitors are invited to watch Vallien design and create glass sculptures live in the Museum’s Amphitheater Hot Shop. Additionally, Vallien will participate in a special live and virtual Connected by Glass program. Details on the events are below and at cmog.org.

Throughout the events, guests will discover and shop one-of-a-kind work by Vallien and other emerging Kosta Boda designers. Featured designers include Lena Bergström, Simon Klenell, Mattias Stenberg,
Ellen Ehk Åkesson, Markus Åkesson, and Åsa Jungnelius.

Tuesday, October 10 | Connected by Glass Lecture

Watch and listen to Bertil Vallien discuss his career and inspiration while our talented Hot Glass Team makes some of his most famous work on the stage behind him. The event will be held live and virtually
via Zoom so remote audiences can watch and engage through the chat function. The event is free and open to the public. No registration is needed to attend in person; registration is required for guests who
will participate virtually.

Wednesday, October 11 | Demonstration and Livestream

Vallien will bring his sculptures to life in a livestreamed demonstration from the Museum’s Amphitheater Hot Shop. The special glass-casting demonstration includes live narration of the casting process. As a special part of this demonstration, select sculptures from these sessions will be available for sale, in addition to the works comprising Passing Through.
