Job Description / Responsibilites

The Oswego County Community Development, Tourism and Planning Department has an immediate opening for a Tourism and Public Information Specialist to develop and promote Oswego County as a tourist attraction by liaising with visitor/tour groups, local business operators, local authorities and public agencies, private companies and vendors, the media and advertising agencies and special interest groups in the areas of art, culture, sports, recreation, and leisure. The work includes maintaining County websites, social media accounts, providing visitor services, promoting attractions and events, and assisting with general public information activities.


Qualifications: Associate's degree or higher in travel and tourism management, public relations, communications, journalism, marketing or a closely related field and one (1) year of experience in public relations, community relations, tourism, journalism, travel, marketing, or events planning ; OR associate's degree or higher and three (3) years of experience as listed above; OR Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and five (5) years of experience as listed above. SPECIAL

Requirements: Possession of a valid New York State driver's license appropriate to the vehicles operated or otherwise demonstrate their ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Position requires long-distance travel and occasional evening and weekend work.

Permanent appointment to this position requires successful completion of the civil service examination.
