Finger Lakes Visitors Connection is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization, with its principle funding coming through Ontario County and its mission to grow Ontario County through positive economic development initiatives.

We are a small team of about 7 people and partner with our neighboring counties and local chambers and BIDs to promote tourism to the county. When you join FLVC you are joining the third oldest and third largest Finger Lakes tourism promotion agency in the region. You will be working with passionate industry partners within Ontario County, the Finger Lakes Region and all over the world. Your work will contribute to the positioning of Ontario County's tourism industry as a major contributor to developing the destination organization of the future. Our roles are as curators of our destination, adopters of business intelligence, catalysts for economic development, activists in placemaking in our communities and collaborators within our strategic networks.

Finger Lakes Visitors Connection's home base is at 19 Susan B. Anthony Lane in Canandaigua, NY. The leadership promotes “workplace locational fluidity" with an eye on the benefits and team strength which result from being together at “home base."

Job Description / Responsibilites

As partner and community engagement manager, you'll contribute to FLVC's strategic development initiatives and marketing plans by gathering and communicating travel and tourism marketing intelligence and trend information that supports the growth and sustainability of our industry and the placemaking of our communities. You have a passion for data and trends and the history they build and the story they tell.

You enjoy building relationships with thought leaders to grow industry awareness – positioning FLVC as an intentional community leader and an equity partner in economic development. You encourage innovation in our guest experiences and evaluate opportunities for development of our destination and our communities as a dynamic place to live, work, play and be well. You are a thought leader, activist and planner for a better future!

What you'll do:

Industry and Travel Trade Development

  • Develop appropriate collaborations; engage and innovate with stakeholder communities, including the hotels, restaurants, attractions, cultural amenities and elected officials. Bring a spirit of entrepreneurialism to the table and increase participation in programs and services.
  • In cooperation with the content development team, ensure a constant and appropriate stream of communications, including but not limited to regular newsletters, email campaigns, social media and other communiques to key travel trade, industry partners, and B2B audiences.
  • Execute a travel trade strategy, including the showcasing of our product through virtual, online and in person activities, familiarization tours, positive media coverage, and lead development.

Advocacy and Community Relations

  • Position the organization as a community shared value; advocate for our role in the hospitality world, the community; ensure that accessibility, diversity, equity, inclusion, and sustainability are woven into the fabric of the organization
  • Assist in sharing market intelligence, strategic and tactical information which positions our industry as an economic development driver and lifestyle enhancer.
  • Develop relationships with local and state government officials and political representatives to advance the mission of FLVC and advocate for the industry. Regularly attend advocacy events.

Education, Training and Workforce Development

  • Collaborate with the team to provide partner opportunities for industry education, supplier networking and co-opportunities.
  • Fosters engagement FLVC networking functions to help promote partnerships and cooperation for tourism growth and recognition.

Supervisory Responsibilities, Professional Development, and Advancement

  • The Partner and Community Engagement Manager provides indirect supervision to assigned interns and creative services vendors.
  • This position reports to the Director of Business Destination Development; with an opportunity to advance in leadership.
  • Annual professional development opportunities on a wide spectrum of timely topics are continually offered. The organization values education, networking, and professional associations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing or communications or hospitality, political science, or business.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in marketing, hospitality or partner development or with a convention/visitors/tourism bureau, hotel related business.
