Social Media Specialist, Steuben County Convention and Visitors Bureau

The Steuben County Conference and Visitors Bureau (SCCVB), DBA Explore Steuben, is the official tourism development and marketing organization for Steuben County, NY. The SCCVB is a 501(c)6 not-for-profit, non-membership organization governed by a Board of Directors that works closely with State, Regional, and local Tourism and Economic Development Offices, and Steuben County businesses. The SCCVB tells the destination’s story in a strategic and research-based approach to increase accommodation occupancy and tourism expenditures within Steuben County, NY.

Summary

Savvy, engaging, self-motivated. This is an Entry-Level Creative Position on the Explore Steuben Team with opportunities for advancement. Responsibilities include crafting, coordinating, and sharing social media content (posts, video, podcasts, outside-the-box storytelling).

The Explore Steuben team works closely with each other and with hundreds of tourism partners throughout Steuben County and the Finger Lakes region telling their stories and helping them share their dreams, while appealing to the aspirations of travelers from near and far by introducing them to the infinite possibilities and experiences to be found here.

We are looking for someone who can transform those stories into eye-catching content that inspires, sparks curiosity, and feeds the imagination. Someone who wants to be challenged creatively and who puts passion into their work. A consummate professional, yet one who is able to embrace the uplifting and often lighthearted nature of tourism and hospitality. After all, we are purveyors of fun.

Someone with talent and fresh ideas, but also a genuine appreciation for the region. Someone who enjoys being an ambassador for others and being part of a team.

Social Media Content Development and Engagement

• Work in conjunction with Marketing Director and team members.
• Proactively research/learn the many Steuben County stories.
• Implement a digital communications strategy that tells compelling stories about Steuben County, NY to visitors and potential visitors.
• Conduct day-to-day coordination of all social media channels, content development and dissemination, community management and results reporting.
• Create and curate engaging content for social media, including short-form video, blog posts, photos, videos, etc.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather content and assets.
• Obtain stakeholder feedback/approval prior to posting (i.e., social media, website, email communications, etc.).
• Regularly engage with organization’s stakeholders and potential visitors across social media channels.
• Proactively work to maintain knowledge of current industry trends, emerging technology, and best practices
• Proactively seek out, like and share content from travel and media influencers who post/talk about Steuben County and our tourism partners.

Digital Content, Videos & Images

• Develop content for use across various digital communications and marketing channels in support of the organization’s mission.
• Assist in securing new and updated videos and images for use on Explore Steuben marketing.
• Maintain digital asset management system (i.e. image/video database) and user-generated content (UGC) management system.

Expectations

Social Media Specialist will work closely with Explore Steuben’s Marketing Director to creatively and authentically market Steuben County, connect it to new audiences, and build brand loyalty through Explore Steuben’s digital marketing channels.

The ideal candidate for this position should have excellent writing and communication skills, experience managing brand social media channels, creativity, an ability to work as a team, and enthusiasm for Steuben County and the southern Finger Lakes. Must have a reliable vehicle for travel around the destination.

Compensation:

• $35,000-$40,000 per year based on experience
• Full time 35 – 40 hours per week
